Crescent Hill Reservoir, Louisville, Kentucky
Have you been to Crescent Hill Reservoir lately? If you haven’t seen it since its renovation in 2015 then add this to your list ASAP.
Crescent Hill Reservoir is well-known in Louisville thanks to its walking paths in such a prime location – along the water, obviously!
You can join others on this nearly one-mile loop each Wednesday for their “Walking Wednesdays” where you can learn all about this reservoir and its gatehouse.
A fun fact that you may not know about Crescent Hill Reservoir is that its gothic design is not an accident. It was specifically designed this way to represent the gothic architecture often found along the Rhine River in Germany, proudly now Louisville’s own German-style castle.
Sadly, in 1974 there was an F4 tornado that twisted its way through 22 miles of Louisville, most greatly impacting the Crescent Hill Reservoir. Up until 2015, this was the only time the gatehouse and reservoir received a renovation.
In 2015, a major $2.5 million restoration took place to clean and restore the terracotta ceiling, repair the limestone steps, fix wrought iron rails, and even clear a space to better view the terracotta ceiling. The results are stunning!
So it makes sense that this location is top of the list when it comes to our senior student photos. The combination of architecture amid the beautiful landscape gives so many naturally beautiful elements as a backdrop.
Green Apple Photography was so excited to capture Katie’s photos at Crescent Hill Reservoir. We always ask our seniors if they would like to share more about themselves with us, it helps give a fuller story to the person in the photos. As you read Katie’s answers and see her photos, I think you’ll agree that we captured her personality perfectly.
